If you want to make some money this year on the NFL season, placing an NFL football bet will be your best bet by far. Take it from me; I have been making a stable income betting on sports for years! Last year I made a total of 0,000 betting on ALL sports last year. Out of that 120K I made last year, around 80k of it was JUST on FOOTBALL bets. The type of football bet depends on the NFL lines and who is playing who. The majority of the times if you can find a steal where the lines are great for a home team, take them.

A football bet tip you will always remember is to find a sports handicapper that spends 8+ hours a day researching each and every pick to give you guaranteed winners. You can find a professional handicapper for cheap, 50 dollars a month or less. Not only will you ONLY pay 50 dollars a month or less, if you do not profit for the month you are FULLY refunded. Secrets of Sports Betting - The Bookmakers Secrets!

During the 1980's, I was part of a group, that used computers to win millions in sports wagers from Las Vegas Casinos. This was before personal computers were in everyday use. The invention we not call the internet was years away from having access to handicapping stats and data. We were successful for two reasons. First we were ahead of the odds makers in collecting important information. They were still doing things the old way, and we took advantage of that loophole.

Those days are gone forever. The second key to success, is to understand how the numbers really work.

Betting Football

ODDS DO NOT PREDICT THE WINNER
Think of it this way. "Odds do not predict who will win. They are actually predicting who the public THINKS will win." Most sports punters, both professional and novice, do not understand the secrets of the bookmakers.

Secrets of Sports Betting - The Bookmakers Secrets!

Two-way sports wagers, (meaning two teams with a 50-50 chance of winning with no ties) are posted at odds of 11-10. This means you wager £11 to win £10. Half the punters select team A, and collect their £10 when they win. The other punters choose team B, and lose the contest paying their bookie £11. You would think this gives the house or bookmaker a 4.55% advantage. You would be wrong with this assumption, but do not feel bad, 99.5% of the bettors think like you do.

THE BIG MISCONCEPTION
General thinking goes something like this. The bookmakers, insure themselves a profit only by balancing their books. In other words, they hope to get half the bets on each of the teams, thus they win every time. In reality, they hardly ever balance their books, or even come close. Your may find small local bookmakers, with small bankrolls, try to operate in this manner, but with so many internet shops available, even they can even up lopsided books. Many small bookmakers do not even know the secret. They are like the rest of the cattle and travel along with the herd. The erroneous belief that large sports bookmaking operations need to balance their bets is the big secret in the industry. What they do need to accomplish, is secure plenty of volume on both sides, without actually balancing the books.

THE BOOKMAKER'S SECRET REVEALED
Suppose the bettors in our example game, risked 5,000 to win 0,000 on the favourite. But the public only bet ,500 on the underdog trying to win ,000. This looks like a mismatch, with the bookmaker heading for big trouble if the favourite wins. If the dog prevails, the sports book makes a profit of ,000. He wins 5,000 from the favourite bettors, and pays out ,000 to the Dog winners. If the Favorite wins, the bookmaker loses ,500. He will win ,500 from the underdog backers, but lose 0,000 to the fans who bet the favourite. This results in a loss of ,500.

Now you may be saying too yourself that math does not make the house a winner. So let us review, when the Underdog wins, the bookmaker wins ,500 but if the favorite wins, he loses ,500. Favourites and underdogs usually split the winning equally and each side 50% winning of the time. Half of the time he will lose ,500, the other half he will win ,500, so his profit is ,000 no matter who wins. So in our example, what is the bookmaker really risking? The bookmaker is really risking ,500 to win ,500. In simple terms, he is essentially laying to win 0. That means he does not have to even win 50% of the time to break even. The house only needs a 42.9% strike rate, after that, it is all profit.

TAKE DOWN A 33% PROFIT NO MATTER WHO WINS
Give me odds of losing and winning 0 on a 50-50 coin flip wager. I will beat you every time with this huge house advantage. To most fans, the general thinking is the bookmaker needs to balance his books with equal wagers. From my example, you can see this is not true. When you have bettors risking twice as much on the favourite side, you are getting a 33% return on every dollar.

Football Pool - How to Organize - Free Football Pool Grid

There are many ways to set up a football pool. Here is one that is very easy to implement:

Decide how much you will charge per square. Usually .00 per square for a total pot of 0.00. Decide how you are going to pay out the pot. Most common is to pay something at the end of each quarter. You can decide what percent of the pot will be paid out each time. For example, 25% after the 1st quarter, 25% after the 2nd quarter and so on until 100% of the pot is paid out. Decide how winners will be determined. A very common way is to use the "last digit" method. Basically you use the last digits of each team's score and find where those numbers intersect on the grid. If you are not familiar with this method, it is described more thoroughly in a free ebook offered below in the Author's box. It will be easier to understand if you can see the example grid that comes with the ebook. Now that the decisions have been made, print off a football pool grid (usually an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet with 100 squares that can be filled in with names). In case you need one, the free ebook offered in the Author's box below includes a blank football pool sheet (plus full instructions). "Sell" squares on the grid until all 100 squares are filled in with the buyer's name. Buyers can purchase multiple squares. After all squares are filled in with names, draw the numbers that will be filled in along the top and down the left side of the grid. Create 10 small squares of paper and then write one number (zero through 9) on each. Fold the 10 squares and put them into something to draw from like a hat. Choose somebody to draw one number at a time and fill them in across the top starting from left to right. Fold them back up and do the same for the left side, top to bottom. When finished, the numbers will be in random order. Enjoy the game and pay out the pot as decided.

4 Benefits Of Gambling

Why gamble and why don't?

Most people are unhappy about being labeled as gamblers since the disgrace would forever harass them. People have several reasons regarding the sport of gambling. Few gamble for fun, some to forget problems, another few to just pass the time. There are people who gamble seriously and there are others who are simply addicted to gambling.

Betting Football

Gambling is not all that downbeat, if you realize that there certain untapped benefits from gambling which are not very visible and are beyond the race track or the walls of casino or even bingo social hall.

4 Benefits Of Gambling

Employment

The employment ratio attributed to the existence of casinos in Las Vegas is around 60 percent. One would not be able to perceive the situation if the casinos suddenly stopped functioning.

Entertainment

Gambling is no doubt the essence of entertainment provided people limit themselves and sprinkle discipline within them. Some people are too optimistic about recovering all their lost cards in the next game and hence continue the game. These constitute hardly a quarter of the gambling population who are not responsible enough and get into indecent gambling.

However there is the other 75 percent of population who gamble responsibly. They are those who know the entertainment value of gambling and never get into opinions where they are blinded to make huge money the very first time they hit the card!

It is a sad fact that only a very minor portion of gamblers realize how destructive gambling can ever get. It is true that friends, families, jobs, properties, crime etc saturate the destruction brought by gambling when there is no application of self discipline.

Charity Work

The winnings coming from gambling tricks and activities have donated the much required financial resource for every worthy cause. Lotteries and Bingos are being utilized in many cases in a way that every win contributes a percentage of jackpot reward to various charity institutions.

At times celebrities manifest their competence in different games such as the card game of poker in a way that the audience is entertained and the winnings go towards the charitable organizations they represent.

Health benefits

Studies have revealed that population which is 65 years or older who gamble have considerably fewer reports of health issues be it depression, alcoholism or bankruptcy. They find gambling very therapeutic as in a way it keeps them alert by exercising their mind.

Retiree gamblers are most often recreational gamblers who value the entertainment quotient of gambling. It was concluded that they stay healthy because they begin by being healthy and not because of gambling.

To conclude, it is not just the act of gambling that develops as harmful or beneficial to any individual. It is but the resolution of the individual which would help him rule excessive gambling rather than excessive gambling ruling up on him.

NFL Betting 101 - The Point Spread, Money Line and Over-Under

NFL football is perhaps the most heavily bet sport in America. When it comes to NFL sports betting, there are three basic types of wagers that gamblers can make. The first two, the point spread and moneyline, are based on the outcome of the game, while the over/under focuses on the total points scored by both teams.

Point Spread

Betting Football

The point spread is a fixed odds bet, which results in the odds remaining constant. It's also said to be an even wager, meaning if you win, you get back double the amount of the bet dollar-for-dollar. However, this is not true. The even odds are actually a little less than even. Commonly, for every .00 you bet on this fixed odds wager, you receive .00 back. If this were a true even wager, then betting .00 would result in the return of .00. The question is-what happened to the other dollar you put down?

NFL Betting 101 - The Point Spread, Money Line and Over-Under

The missing dollar was what gamblers call vig or vigorish, which is a Yiddish term used in sports betting to describe the bookmaker's commission. In essence, it is how betting sites make their money, ensuring that they turn a profit on each and every bet. It's a fee that you pay to use the bookmaker's services. Thus, the point spread actually pays approximately 1: 0.90 and not 1:1.

The point spread is used by bookies to help create an even playing field, making it more difficult for gamblers to pick the winner and encouraging betting on both sides of the ledger. The underdog is given points by the handicappers and the favorite has points taken away. Point spreads are often stated as fractions, which ensures that one NFL team or the other will win, negating a possible tie. Ties are usually discouraged due to the fact that they result in a push where all bets are returned.

Here's a typical point spread:

New England Patriots             - 7.5

Cleveland Browns                   +7.5

When the spread is listed in sports betting, the home team is on the bottom. Home field advantage amongst two evenly matched teams usually results in the home club being listed at minus-3.5 points. In our example, Cleveland is the decided underdog, being the home team and having been given 7.5 points. That means if you wager on the Browns and they win outright or lose by less than eight points, you win your wager. If you put your cash on the Pats, they must win by eight points or more for you to collect. If they win by less than eight, you lose. Thus, if the final score is Patriots 35 and Browns 30, Cleveland, at plus-7.5, pays-off as their adjusted score for the sake of sports betting is 37.5.

Moneyline

If you're new to the moneyline, you might find it confusing. Using the Pats and Browns again, here's what that NFL contest might look like when listed on a sports betting site.

New England Patriots             - 140

Cleveland Browns                   +135

The first thing to realize is that a moneyline wager does not involve the giving or taking away of points. The actual winner of the game results in a payout. If you bet on New England and they take the contest by one or 100 points, you win your wager; the same is true for Cleveland.

With the moneyline, the team that is at minus is the favorite and the club that is designated with a plus is the underdog. In our example, the Pats at minus-140 are considered the favorite and the Browns at plus-135 are thought to be at a disadvantage. To win 0 on New England, you must risk 0. On the other hand, if you take the underdog Cleveland Browns, a bet of 0 offers a payout of 5. The riskier wager costs less and pays more.

Is there vig in the moneyline? It's there; already include in the calculated payouts. It's simply tougher to see. To collect their cut, bookies simply charge a bit more for you to bet on the favored club and pay out a bit less on the underdog.

Over/Under

The over/under wager basically pays the same as a moneyline bet. Often, you'll see it listed like this:

New England Patriots

O/U 36 -110

Cleveland Browns

If the game results in a total of 37 or more points scored and you bet the over, your 0 wager garners you a profit of 0. If the total points scored add up to 35 or fewer and you took that action, you'd win 0 for every 0 you put down. If the point totals come to 36, then it's a push and all over/under bets are returned. In order to avoid the push, you'll often see the over/under listed as a fraction.

In sports betting, those are the basic NFL wagers and their payouts. A full NFL betting line at a sports book would look like this:

Teams                                     Spread                         O/U                 Moneyline

New England Patriots             - 7.5                                                     - 140

O/U 36 -110

Cleveland Browns                   +7.5                                                     +135

NFL sports betting can be fun, exciting and profitable. Before making any wager always take time to research each team. In order to turn a consistent profit, sports bettors need to make intelligent decisions.

NFL Week 9 Point Spread Picks And Best Bets

SUNDAY AFTERNOON 1:00 PM ET

1. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (-3.5) VS. Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals are a different team with Kurt Warner at QB and they have a potentially explosive offense that can put up points in bunches. Of course the key is to keep Warner upright which has been somewhat of a challenge this season but he is ready to go for this one. The Buc's are coming off a demoralizing loss at home against the Jaguars and will be looking to right the ship before the season begins to spiral out of control. To lose to a backup QB like Quinn Gray could have a lasting impact on their psyches however and they might play tight so as not to make the mistakes they did last week which destroyed their chances. The Buc's simply can't score enough to justify giving 3.5 to anyone. Throw in the fact the better-than-average Cardinal offense is getting a head start makes them that much of a better play. The Pick: Arizona Cardinals (-3.5)

Betting Football

2. ATLANTA FALCONS (-3.5) VS. San Francisco 49ers: In a battle of two terrible offensive teams, the extra half point tilts this one in the 49ers' advantage. San Francisco qualifies in a very positive 81-54-1 ATS game scenario that plays on teams that have been especially bad on offense in recent weeks. Basically the belief is that the 'Niners have hit rock bottom on offense and that they will be able to get back on track against a poor Falcons defense. The 49ers have a big advantage in the run game with Frank Gore and the passing attack should get itself going with QB Alex Smith getting more comfortable after coming back from injury. The ATS trend and the player personnel both favor the 49ers and it wouldn't be a surprise if they even won here. THE PICK: 49ers (+3.5)

3. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (-3.5) VS. Jacksonville Jaguars: ********THIS GAME IS ONE OF OUR BEST BETS FOR THE WEEK.

4. TENNESSEE TITANS (-4.5) VS. Carolina Panthers: WE HAVE A STRONG OPINION ON THIS GAME.

5. Cincinnati Bengals (-.5) VS. BUFFALO BILLS: WE HAVE A STRONG OPINION ON THIS GAME.

6. Washington Redskins (-3.5) VS. NEW YORK JETS: The Jets will turn to Kellen Clemens this week in the hopes of sparking the team. That certainly could do the trick for the Jets here but it also could go the other way as this might signal that the white flag has been raised and that the team is playing for next year. A major letdown could then be at hand and things could get ugly against a still motivated, hard-hitting Redskins squad. Surely the 'Skins went back to the drawing board after last week's embarrassment against the Patriots but the fact of the matter is that this team still can't score. The Jets could have trouble scoring also as star WR Laverneaous Coles is likely to miss this game with a concussion. Either way this game has too many question marks to touch. THE PICK: PASS

7. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (-2.5) VS. Green Bay Packers: The Packers are in a bad spot here as they are coming off a short week after playing a draining game in Denver on MNF. Green Bay won that game in OT and now they have to go out on the road again to take on the Chiefs in Arrowhead. Kansas City has played much better than anyone could have expected as they have won three in a row and are a strong factor in the AFC West race. The Packers have gone only 1-7 in their last eight in Kansas City and they should have trouble getting up for a second straight road game in a very hostile environment. THE PICK: Kansas City Chiefs (-2)

8. San Diego Chargers (-7.5) VS. Minnesota Vikings: WE HAVE A STRONG OPINION ON THIS GAME.

9. DETROIT LIONS (-3.5) VS. Denver Broncos: The Lions are actually in the playoff hunt this season and their only worry in the weak NFC North right now are the Packers. The Lions are fresh off a road win over the Bears where the defense stepped up and intercepted QB Brian Griese four times. The Broncos on the other hand come off a terrible loss at home on MNF against the Packers in a game they should have won. Awful clock management and play calling by coach Mike Shannahan did them in and so they now must try and save their season on the road. The Broncos match up well with the Lions in that their great secondary led by Pro Bowl CB Champ Bailey should limit the effectiveness o the Detroit passing attack. This game will be won by running the football which both teams do rather evenly. There are scenarios that favor both sides in this game and there is much too uncertainty to make this a worthwhile pick. THE PICK: PASS

SUNDAY AFTERNOON 4:00 PM ET

10. CLEVELAND BROWNS (-1.5) VS. Seattle Seahawks: WE HAVE A STRONG OPINION ON THIS GAME.

Horse Racing Betting Odds

You will notice that as wagering on a race progresses closer to post time, the odds will change. Why is that you ask? The Cash that is wagered in a horse race is counted up and put into Pools. What is a Pool? A Pool is where the total amount of money that is wagered on a specific type of bet is held to be redistributed to patrons that have correctly selected the outcome of the specific wager they have placed. Out of these pools certain percentages are subtracted. The Government receives a percentage (taxes) for allowing the race in a certain jurisdiction. The Racetracks receive a percentage for promotions, maintaining the racetrack, and paying employees. The horsemen receive a percentage that makes the Race Tracks able to offer purse money to the owners and trainers for racing horses. If there was no money, there would be no racing. After the percentage is removed, the remaining money is paid out. This is where gamblers get their payouts for winning tickets.

The odds are usually in the form of x/y (e.g. 5/1, 9/5). Dividing x by y gives a ratio to 1. The smallest ratio or the largest amount of money on a number represents the favorite.

Betting Football

Winning odds of 2/1 will pay .00 for a bet, while 5/1 will pay .00 for a bet. Payout is calculated by (odds ratio to 1) x bet amount + bet amount.

Horse Racing Betting Odds

Example: For odds of 5/1, the approximate payout for a bet is 5 x = + = .

Some tracks allow different minimum amounts on each type of bet; generally, bets tends to be the minimum on all bets. The offshore sportsbook odds are calculated based on the sales for the bet minus a government, and handling tax. These deductions vary and are usually controlled by a regulatory body. Deductions may vary in the same track if there are simulcast races. In addition some tracks tax payouts in excess of a specified limit; generally, this limit is 600/1.
